In this paper, a 9.5 x 9.5 x 1.524mm 3 asymmetrical CPW fed stub loaded hook-shaped patch antenna is proposed. The proposed antenna is mounted on the partial ground with the dimensions of 4.5 x 9.5 x 0.035mm 3 and is excited by a 50-ohm line. A slot of dimensions 2.5 x 2.5mm 2 is etched on the ground plane to achieve a wideband feature for the proposed patch antenna. The antenna consists of a λ/4 ‘L’ shaped stub and a λ/4 vertical stub attached outside the hookshaped patch antenna. The hook antenna resonates at 20.6GHz (simulated) and the stubs help the antenna to radiate at multiple frequencies with proper impedance matching. The ‘L’ shaped stub introduces resonance at 6.96GHz (simulated) and the vertical stub introduces resonance at 11.67GHz (simulated). The proposed antenna has been designed, fabricated, and tested. The measured impedance bandwidth of the ultra-wideband antenna is 33.88GHz (6.12–40GHz). The ultra-wideband feature makes the proposed patch antenna eligible for ultra-wideband and data collection applications. The proposed antenna has gains ranging from 1.1dBi to 5.25dBi. The proposed antenna possesses good radiation features in both E- and H-planes at all the resonant frequencies. Moreover, the proposed antenna is an excellent candidate for Federal Communications Commission (FCC) licensed frequencies, data collection and upper 5G applications. The proposed antenna exhibits better performance compared to the existing ultra-wideband antennas which are discussed in the literature. The measured and simulated results are in acceptable agreement.
